Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj was born on 26th June 1874.  His name is Yashwantrao Jaysingrao Ghatge.  Adopted by Kolhapur Chhatrapati on 17th March 1884, and he became Shahu Chhatrapati!

On  He came to the throne on April 2, 1894 and introduced many new traditions to Maharashtra.  This king, who dreamed of the overall upliftment of the populace (Bahujan Samaj), was the pike of the truth-seeking movement.

He made primary education compulsory and free in order to awaken the self-esteem of the masses by educating them.  He erected a dormitory of Kshatriya Jagaduru (kind king) and a hostel on the basis of equality.

He is a social revolutionary who maintains 50% reservation in government service for the exploited!  This is a king who is familiar with many aspects like humor, art lover, wrestler, hunter!

Rajarshi, who was an active supporter of social reforms, was a patron of virtues and a devotee of fine arts.
  He died on 6 May 1922.
