Satyajit Ray was a brilliant dreamer, heir to the Ravind culture and an Oscar-winning Indian film director-painter-composer.
On He was born on 2 May 1921 in Calcutta.
After graduating in Economics, he moved to Santiniketan. Here he was greatly influenced by the world famous painter Nandlal Bose. From the rites of Santiniketan came the genius of Satyajit Ray, who spoke of the relationship between Indianness and blood here.
At the same time, he also wrote film reviews for ‘Stateman’. Founded the Calcutta Film Society in 1947. Ray, who studied Indian music and especially Ravindra Sangeet and Digestive Sangeet (music}), made films like ‘Pather Panchali‘, ‘Charulata‘, ‘Apur Sansar‘ and ‘Kapurush‘.
Satyajit Ray, who has received numerous awards like Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, Magsaysay, Padma Vibhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke, Oscar, Sangeet Natak Akademi, was honored by the Government of India in 1992 with ‘Bharataran‘.
This able-bodied man of Indian painting passed away on April 23, 1992.
