Bharat Ratna Aruna Asfali

Born – July 16, 1909.

Died  – July 29, 1996.

This brilliant deserter was born on July 16, 1909 in the Ganguly family in Bengal. She was active in the 1942 movement. It was the last days of the struggle for independence from the Gowalia Tank in Mumbai, which began with the “Leave India”(भारत छोडो ) movement and the drive to drive out the British by shouting “Walk, walk”(चालते व्हा, चले जाव ) {get out}.

The British had started arresting the leaders of the country to suppress the movement. Despite the fact that Gowalia Tank Ground is under strict police surveillance, the flamboyant attitude that they hoisted the tricolor on the flagpole by evading the security of the time.

Despite announcing a huge reward to the British who sacrificed their lives to catch Aruna Asfali, they could not catch his shadow. During the agitation, she remained underground for four consecutive years and carried the torch of revolution.

“Breaking all the perverted bonds in society, he married Asfali, a barrister.” After the country got independence, he devoted his entire life to social work.


This Krantijyoti ended on July 29, 1996 in Delhi. “He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna by the Government of India in 1997.” He was earlier awarded the Nehru Award in 1992. We should pay tribute to their incomparable work.
